AUG 26- ANDREW THOMAS HUANG

ANDREW THOMAS HUANG is a filmmaker and artist from Los Angeles. His work has been showcased at the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes Lions, the Hammer Museum’s Flux Series, MOCA Taipei, ZKM Media Museum among others. Huang is known for his music video collaborations with the Icelandic artist Bjork, as well as Sigur Ros and Thom Yorke’s band Atom for Peace. He has also collaborated with fashion designers Iris van Herpen, Gareth Pugh, and threeASFOUR. Andrew graduated with a degree in Fine Art and Animation from the University of Southern California.

RAQI SYED has worked as a Visual Effects Artist for Disney Feature Animation and Weta Digital on films such as TangledAvatar, and The Hobbit Trilogy. She also writes about film and the business of visual effects. Her articles have appeared in TechCrunch, Vice: Motherboard, and Avidly: A LARB Channel. She graduated from the USC Division of Animation and Digital Arts in 2001 and also holds a degree in Creative Writing from Victoria University of Wellington. SEPT 9- SCOTT SQUIRES

SCOTT SQUIRES is a visual effects supervisor and director. His first film project was Close Encounters of the Third Kind, where he developed the Cloud Tank Effect. In 1979 Squires, Hoyt Yeatman, Rocco Gioffre, Fred Iguchi, Tom Hollister and Bob Hollister co-founded Dream Quest Images, a visual effects house, which was later purchased by Disney. Squires was president of Dream Quest and left in 1985 to work for Industrial Light and Magic. Squires worked as visual effects supervisor and commercial director at ILM for 20 years and is now a freelance director and visual effects supervisor. While at ILM, Squires received an Academy Technical Award for Input Scanning and received Academy Award nominations for, The Mask, Dragonheart, and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

JULIA POTT is a British Illustrator / Animator based in Los Angeles. She completed her MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art and her short films screening at film festivals including Sundance and SXSW. She was named one of the 25 New Faces of Film by Filmmaker Magazine and an Indie Film Breakout by Indiewire. She is an ADC Young Gun and a YCN Professional Award Winner. Her clients include Bat for Lashes, Hermes, J. Crew, Madewell, Oreo, Rachel Antonoff and Toyota. She is currently developing a short with Cartoon Network.

SEPT 23- REFIK ANADOL

REFIK ANADOL is a media artist and director born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1985. Currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California. He is a lecturer in UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts. He is working in the fields of site-specific public art with parametric data sculpture approach and live audio/visual performance with immersive installation approach, particularly his works explore the space among digital and physical entities by creating a hybrid relationship between architecture and media arts. He holds a master of fine arts degree from University of California, Los Angeles in Media Arts, master of fine arts degree from Istanbul Bilgi University in Visual Communication Design as well as bachelors of arts degree with summa cum laude in Photography and Video. Co-founder and Creative director at Antilop. As a media artist, designer and spatial thinker, Refik Anadol is intrigued by the ways in which the transformation of the subject of contemporary culture requires rethinking of the new aesthetic, technique and dynamic perception of space. Anadol builds his works on the nomadic subject’s reaction to and interactions with unconventional spatial orientations. Embedding media arts into architecture, he questions the possibility of a post digital architectural future in which there are no more non-digital realities. He invites the viewers to visualize alternative realities by presenting them the possibility of re-defining the functionalities of both interior and exterior architectural formations. Anadol’s work suggests that all spaces and facades have potentials to be utilized as the media artists’ canvases. He has been given awards, residencies and has served as a guest lecturer. His site-specific audio/visual performances have been seen in Walt Disney Concert Hall (USA), Hammer Museum (USA), International Digital Arts Biennial Montreal (Canada), Ars Electronica Festival (Austria), l’Usine | Genève (Switzerland), Arc De Triomf (Spain), Zollverein | SANAA’s School of Design Building (Germany), santralistanbul Contemporary Art Center (Turkey), Outdoor Vision Festival SantaFe New Mexico (USA), Istanbul Design Biennial (Turkey), Sydney City Art (Australia), Lichtrouten (Germany).

SEPT 30- DAVID KEIGHLY (HELD IN IMAX THEATRE)

DAVID KEIGHLEY is the Chief Quality Officer at IMAX and has been involved in the post-production of more than 400 IMAX films. He oversees as president of IMAX’s post-production image and quality control subsidiary, DKP 70MM Inc., co-founded with his wife and business partner, Patricia, in 1972 and acquired by IMAX in February 1988. Keighley was appointed Executive Vice President of IMAX in July 2007 and previous to that had been Senior Vice President since July 1997. As CQO, David Keighley is an icon in the industry, earning a sterling reputation through his meticulous attention to detail and his sense of personal responsibility to the work he’s done for the best, brightest and most innovative filmmakers. In his 43+ years working with IMAX film, digital and dome formats, David has been involved with the vast majority of large format films to be released. To this day, no film or trailer leaves the IMAX lab without his personal approval and his vast knowledge and experience are the central pillar on which the quality of the IMAX brand is based. Keighley is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and participates in the Academy’s Science and Technology Awards Committee. He is a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and a recipient of its Herbert T. Kalmus Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Color Motion Pictures. He has also received the Giant Screen Theater Association’s inaugural Special Achievement in Film.

OCT 7- ANDREW SCHMIDT

ANDREW L. SCHMIDT is a Director at Dreamworks Animation Television.  He has worked in the animation industry for 20 years and has a long list of credits in both traditional 2D animation and CG animated films.  He began his career in 1990 in London, UK at Amblimation Studios where he worked on Fievel Goes West, We’re Back and Balto.  In 1996, Schmidt relocated to Los Angeles, California where he worked for Dreamworks Feature Animation on The Prince of Egypt, then moved to Warner Brothers Feature Animation where he animated on The Iron Giant and Osmosis Jones. In 2000, Schmidt moved to San Francisco and joined Pixar Animation Studios where he has worked on Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-e, Up and Toy Story 3.  He has also animated on various Pixar short films, including supervising animation for Partly Cloudy. Andy currently works as a Director at Dreamworks Animation Television.

OCT 14- CARL ROSENDAHL

CARL ROSENDAHL graduated with a BSEE from Stanford University in 1979. Seeking a way to combine his passions for filmmaking and technology, he founded Pacific Data Images in 1980. PDI became, and continues to be, one of the pioneering and most highly innovative creators of computer animation for film and television. During his 20 years of leading the organization, PDI produced over 700 commercials, worked on visual effects for over 70 feature films and, in partnership with DreamWorks SKG, produced the hit animated film “Antz” and the Academy Award winning “Shrek.” The company has received multiple Emmy Awards and in 1998 Carl was recognized with a Technical Achievement Academy Award for PDI’s contributions to modern filmmaking. In early 2000 he sold PDI to DreamWorks SKG, where the company continues to develop and produce animated feature films, including the “Shrek” series and “Madagascar.” Carl is currently an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center, and is a Co-Director of the Silicon Valley satellite campus. He mentors and advises students working on their Masters in Entertainment Technology degrees and teaches a course on entrepreneurship. In addition, Carl is an advisor for a number of companies, where he specializes in helping to direct and manage creative organizations that are technology based.

OCT 21- BRUCE BLOCK

BRUCE A. BLOCK is a film producer, author and visual consultant whose career spans 30+ years. In 2001, Block’s book The Visual Story was published. In 2007 it went into a completely revised second edition. Block began work as a Filmic and Visual Consultant on such films as Irreconcilable Differences (1984) and Bachelor Party (1984). He has gone on to be a consultant for films such as Stuart Little (1999), As Good as It Gets (1997) and Spanglish (2004). As a film producer, Block has produced and co-produced the films Father of the Bride (1991), Father of the Bride II (1995), Disney’s The Parent Trap (1998), What Women Want (2000), Something’s Gotta Give (2003), and The Holiday (2006).

BARNEY PATTERSON, who goes by the artist identity Sus Boy, is a multimedia designer and artist based in Los Angeles. His arsenal of work spans a variety of forms including gaming and app development, web design, fashion design, animation and music video direction. He has collaborated in the past with musicians Skrillex, Boys Noize, Baauer, RL Grime, Jack Ü and The Diplomats; and is a pioneer in the field of experimental live visuals. He was awarded Best In Album App at the 2014 Flash FWD Awards for Skrillex’s Alien Ride App, and was honored by Rolling Stones for Best Graphic Design at this year’s Lollapalooza Festival for his work with Berlin-based techno artist Boys Noize. Barney graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from CalArts and is a member of LA-based collective Wedidit, alongside his brother and fellow artist Groundislava.

NOV 4- ADAM HOWARD

ADAM HOWARD is regarded as an accomplished visual magician, supervising and creating high end visual effects, animation and design work for the motion picture and television industry in both the USA and Australia. Adam was a Senior Artist at George Lucas’ acclaimed visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic where he contributed to 17 major motion pictures. Prior to working at ILM he won 4 Primetime EMMY Awards and received a total of 10 Emmy Award nominations for his work on all four of the Star Trek TV series. He won 11 International Monitor Awards for his work in television commercials and music videos and has been honored twice by the AICP for visual effects and animation. He was on the founding board of directors of the Visual Effects Society and is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts. In addition to his film and television work, Adam was Senior Visual Effects Supervisor for the state of the art ride experience Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at TheWizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios, Orlando Florida. His most recent feature film projects as Visual Effects Supervisor are: Unknown, The Social Network, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn I & II, Tower Heist, Last Vegas and BIRDMAN.

NOV 11- KEVIN MACK

KEVIN MACK is a pioneering Digital Fine Artist and Academy Award winning Visual Effects Designer. He received the Oscar for his work on the film WHAT DREAMS MAY COME. His filmography of over thirty films can be seen on the Kevin Mack IMDB page. Mack’s work in artificial life and rule based systems, used to grow the tree in WHAT DREAMS MAY COME and the inside of a human brain in FIGHT CLUB, inspired the development of tissue simulation software that has been used for virtual stem cell research.  In 2006, Mack received the title of Honorary Neuroscientist, from UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, for his lectures there on perception, visualization and creativity.  In 2012 Kevin worked with physicists at CERN on the visualization of recent discoveries in particle physics. Mack’s fine art practice is inspired by a love of both technology and natural phenomena, and is informed by research in a wide range of fields from neuroscience to quantum physics. Mack’s psychoactive images, objects and animations are designed to inspire the imagination and evoke a unique response in each viewer. Among the first to exploit the unique capabilities of 3D printing, Mack produces sculptural forms that cannot be achieved by any other means. He is now realizing a lifelong dream of expressing his artistic visions as virtual reality. Kevin’s work has been exhibited at 3D Printer World Expo, The P.S. Zask Gallery, The Copro Gallery, The Brett Wesley Gallery, The Extreme Futurist Festival, The Laguna Art Museum, Carnegie Melon University, Siggraph Art Gallery and Animation Festival, Art Center College of Design, The Director’s Guild of America, The Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, The Barbara Mendes Gallery, The Flower Pepper Gallery, The Banzai!!! DEC 2- NANCY CARTWRIGHT

As an Emmy & Annie Award-winning actress, NANCY CARTWRIGHT is best known as the voice of spikey-headed underachiever Bart Simpson, but also gives voice to Ralph Wiggum, Nelson Muntz, Todd Flanders, Maggie Simpson, DataBase and Kearney in the town of Springfield on Fox’s 26-year-iconic hit, The Simpsons. Needless to say, it is the longest running scripted TV series in history—starting its 27th year in production. In her 34-year career at the microphone, Nancy has lent her voice to hundreds of other award-winning animated series, including Rugrats (Chuckie); Kim Possible (Rufus the Naked Mole Rat); Richie Rich (Gloria); Animaniacs (Mindy); The Replacements (Todd) as well as Pinky and the Brain; The Critic; God, The Devil and Bob; Mike, Lu & Og; and Chuck Jones’ final work, Timberwolf.  Today, as a producer and writer, she is currently in pre-production on a feature film In Search of Fellini. Another company project in development is a comedic animated series about entrepreneurial seniors who have taken over the Miami retirement home called Unassisted Living.
